We have just become aware of an incompatibility of our products with Java 2 Runtime Environments earlier than 1.3.1. Our products will not function properly with Java 1.2.2 or earlier.

The problem may manifest itself (among possibly other symptoms) by requiring you to re-license the application at every launch, even if you have copied the license to the Licenses folder, and WordLink not functioning properly. The issue is with java.net.URL.openStream() not handling file://-URLs with quotes in it (e.g. '%20') correctly. You are not affected by this problem if the paths on your system do not contain spaces or characters that need to be quoted. There is currently no known workaround other than using Java 1.3.1 or later.

The currently delivered installer does not allow choosing the Java VM to be used if you have installed more than one on your machine. It is therefore necessary to verify under Help > System Information... that the Java version used is 1.3.1 or higher.

We will update our product specification pages and the product manuals accordingly to reflect the new product requirements, and will update our installers to allow for manual Java VM selection at installation time.

We have released a new version of our XML to Word converter, downCast. It fixes several bugs and comes with new features.

This is a free upgrade for registered users of version 1.0 and version 1.0.0/1.0.1 licenses will continue to work.

This API consists of a C header file (.h) and a corresponding library for use on the MS Windows platform. All file-based methods of the upCast/downCast Java API are mirrored in this implementation along with a static method to call the upCast/downCast GUI. The C/C++ library requires upCast 4.0.1 and/or downCast 1.0.1, respectively. Includes C sample code.

After installing the VB components from within the upCast GUI or downCast GUI, you can embed upCast and downCast functionality in your own VBA applications or Word macros. All file-based methods of the upCast/downCast Java API are mirrored in this implementation along with a method to call the upCast/downCast GUI. A sample collection of macros for Word show the usage of this API.

In upCast 4.0.1 we have included a first, experimental version of a new DocBook 4.2 export filter that does not require an XSLT post processing step.

Important: This filter is experimental only and included in this release to solicit feedback from interested users.
This filter is provided as-is without any warranties. It may contain serious bugs.

This is an updated version of the original upCast to DocBook XSLT processing sheet, brought up-to-date to work with output generated by upCast 4.0.

This is a rather simple, interim solution until a more powerful DocBook conversion solution is available.

This new XSLT processing sheet converts documents created with the XML (generic DTD) export filter in upCast 3.x to the new upCast 4 DTD format.
